He is brother of Olympic shot put athlete, Tia Brooks, and Tor’i has three other siblings, DeMarcus Brooks, David Brooks, Jr., and Teiah Faulk.

Brooks started playing basketball in the seventh grade at Pinewood Middle School. He was cut in eighth grade, then barely made his freshman team. As a sophomore, he played junior varsity sparingly, off the bench. But the coaches saw promise. Being cut from the team in eighth grade “crushed” Brooks, who took the next formative years to grow in both determination and height (5’-8” to 6’-2”). The athlete played his senior year for East Kentwood High School Basketball (Varsity) with a mindset that, "Through hard work, anything is possible. It doesn't matter what people think, nothing is ever set in stone. You do what you can for your future."

American Professional basketball, The Drew League, Venice Basketball League, and JBL. While competing throughout the various pro league and teams from the USA, Canada and Mexico; Brooks snagged his first World Championship in 2019 when he beat out his competitors presented from the Euroleague, NBL (National Basketball League), NBLC (National Basketball League Canada), CBA (Chinese Basketball Association) and the NBA G League.

Brooks was a member of the 93rd season Harlem Globetrotters (2019 season), where his nickname ‘Bionic Brooks' was solidified. The nickname, originating during Brooks' earlier slam-dunk competitions, was adopted by the Globetrotters who recognized Brooks' powerful dunking abilities.'

Tor’i Brooks was an original cast member on MTV’s reality TV dating show ‘Ex on the Beach’  (seasons 1 and 2). He met and fell for Angela Babicz during season one. The relationship, however, did not continue to season two.

Brooks attended his local public schools in Michigan and started as a Division One athlete at Michigan State University. He suffered a knee injury that required a year of recovery and forced him to transfer to Davenport University before resuming track and field. He continued track and field as a graduate student at Grand Valley State University. Brooks also played basketball at Davenport.
