He modeled part of his singer/songwriter look and persona on Richard Pindell, a popular English professor whom he admired at Binghamton University. Pindell was a Yale-educated, enigmatic, cowboy hat wearing rebel, spoke with a cadence similar to Don Imus, and was often very funny. He died in 2018.
