After college, he received an Air Force officer's commission and for the next several years performed theatre wherever he was stationed in the US and Europe. After leaving the service and arriving in California Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (1993) producer Ellen Levy-Sarnoff cast him in a guest starring role on an episode she wrote during the show's first season when it emerged as huge hit for Fox. Levy-Sarnoff was so impressed with Guest's versatility that she brought him back in different roles for four additional episodes.

Soon he landed a recurring role on the CBS daytime The Young and the Restless (1973). Guest enjoyed the experience and particularly the professionalism shown to him by series regular Peter Bergman.
