Lyntton was brought up in Primrose Hill, North London. He attended William Ellis Grammar School and Exeter University. Richard served as a Captain and tank commander in the British Army in Gulf War 1, Bosnia and Russia. He graduated from Mountview Theater School (Mountview Academy of Theater Arts) in 1998.
