2020

On 28 February 2020 Danielson became Djurgården's most expensive outbound transfer ever, when he was sold to the Chinese club Dalian Professional for more than 50 million SEK.

2019

He played in 27 games and was selected as the league's Most Valuable Player when Djurgården won the 2019 Allsvenskan.

On 7 October 2019, Danielson was called up by to the Sweden national team squad for the UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying games against Malta and Spain as a replacement for the injured central defender Pontus Jansson. He scored from a corner ten minutes into his debut, in what ended up as a 4–0 victory for Sweden over Malta.

2018

On 12 February 2018, Marcus signed for top tier club Djurgårdens IF. He would make his league debut in the first game of the campaign on 1 April 2018 against Östersunds FK that ended in a 1-0 victory and a goal for Marcus.

On 10 May 2018 he played as Djurgården beat Malmo FF 3–0 in the Swedish Cup Final.

2012

On 8 February 2012, Marcus would transfer to newly promoted top tier club GIF Sundsvall for the start of the 2012 Allsvenskan. He was immediately installed within the heart of the teams defence and he made his league debut on 31 March 2012 in a 1-0 defeat to Kalmar FF. At the end of the season the club would struggle within the league and they lost a relegation play-off to Halmstads BK. At the end of the 2014 Superettan Marcus would aid the club in promotion back into Allsvenskan by gaining a runners-up spot within the division.

2009

Marcus Danielson would play for fourth tier football club IFK Eskilstuna until he went on a successful trial for top tier club Helsingborgs IF in the summer of 2007. At Helsingborgs IF he would struggle to break into their first team and the club allowed him to leave for free to third tier club Västerås SK on 27 July 2009. He would gain considerably more playing time at Västerås SK and by the 2010 league season he would be an integral part of the team that won the division title and promotion into the Superettan. In the second tier the club would struggle to remain in the division and at the end of the 2011 league season they were relegated.
