Doug Olear lived two blocks south of The World Trade Center on Greenwich and Rector Street in NYC and was home the day of 9/11. His brother Gregory worked on the 99th Floor of North Tower 1. That morning after the planes struck, Doug rushed to the WTC to try find find his brother. He reached a block away from North Tower 1 on Greenwich Street when the North Tower came crashing down. Doug ran past his apartment and was pulled into a parking garage. Doug Olear was later helped by the Screen Actors Guild in relocating after losing his apartment. Doug was one of the first Actors to be helped by the newly devised Screen Actors Guild Emergency Fund, set up after 9/11 to assist Actors in Emergencies. His brother Gregory was late that day bringing his young daughter to school. He lost over 300 fellow workers from the company he worked for at Marsh McClennan.
