When Edwards died in 1971, nearly broke and alone, Walt Disney Productions, remembering his many contributions to their films over the years, paid for his funeral.

1941

Also plays the voice of Dandy Crow (also known as Jim Crow) and sings "When I See An Elephant Fly" in Walt Disney's Dumbo (1941).

1940

Supplied the voice of Jiminy Cricket in Disney's animated classic Pinocchio (1940), also singing "When You Wish upon a Star" (BS:AA) therein. He also reprised the role in Fun and Fancy Free (1947) and many other features for Disney. After Edwards' death in 1971 the role was taken over by Eddie Carroll.

Becoming popular with playing the ukulele, his unique singing and supplying the voice of animated movies, Cliff Edwards was one of the most popular singers in America. Born in Hannibal, Missouri, Edwards left school at the age of 14, moved to St. Louis, and started to work as a singer in saloons. Edwards then taught himself to play the ukulele. He got his nickname, "Ukelele Ike", from a club owner who couldn't remember his name. Entering in the vaudeville circuit, he finally made it big. When entering into movies, one of his first movies he made was his most noticeable: The Hollywood Revue of 1929 (1929).
