Was declared persona non-grata in the Philippines in 1984 after she engaged in a hair pulling incident the manager of fellow Miss Universe (Philippines, 1969) Gloria Diaz. She alleged that the manager try to pimp her to wealthy businessmen and politicians, which she turned down. The feud resulted to Amparo's deportation, upon the request and intervention of Joseph Estrada, then mayor of San Juan, a close friend of Diaz.

Immediately after her victory in the world of beauty, the world of cinema took interest in her. In Wholesome Married Life, directed by Roberto Bodegas and written by José Luis Garci, she played the temptress of José Sacristán, a married man obsessed with publicity. In Tocata y fuga de Lolita, by Antonio Drove, she was the rebellious girl who displayed her beautiful bust, a big contributor to the movie's popularity.
