On 24 April 2017, Supreme Court of India ordered reinstatement of T.P. Senkumar as State Police Chief. The government had to reappoint Dr.Senkumar as State Police Chief again on 5 May 2017 .

2006

In 2006, he was appointed the Managing Director, of Kerala State Road Transport Corporation and was later appointed Transport Commissioner in 2010. in 2009, during his tenure as head of KSRTC, he was also given the responsibility of MD, Kerala Transport Development Finance Corporation. As ADGP, Intelligence from 2012 to 2013, he sent newspaper clippings to the then chief minister, highlighting the plight of poor and destitute people, who were in requirement of assistance, which led the Chief Minister to start a permanent fund to assist such cases. In 2014, he was appointed as the DGP, Prisons. He has investigated many important cases in Kerala like the LIS financial scam, Mangium, Teak and Goat scam cases, Vithura and Pandalam sexual assault cases and French spy case among others.

Prior to joining the Indian Police Service, T.P. Senkumar joined the Indian Economic Service. In 1982 he applied and was selected to the Indian Police Service, under the General Category, of the Kerala Cadre, in 1983. He started his career as ASP, Thalassery & Kannur. Senkumar also served as the Kochi City Police commissioner for a little over a year till August 1996., before which he served as ADC to the governor from 1991 to 1995. He was appointed IG, Police Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau in 2004.

T. P. Senkumar (born 10 June 1957) is an Indian lawyer and retired police officer in the Indian Police Service. He served as the State Police Chief of Kerala. He was appointed as the State Police Chief on 31 May 2015, replacing K S Balasubramaniam, who retired on 31 May 2015. The request of Mahesh Kumar Singla, who is currently serving as DGP, Border security force, to be considered for the position, was turned down by the Cabinet. Senkumar has more than 2 years left before retirement, which was considered while making the appointment. He was replaced by Lokanath Behera IPS, and transferred as head of the Police Housing Construction Corporation on 31 May 2016, by the then newly-elected LDF government.
