He appeared in series 47 of the BBC Radio 4 show Great Lives in January 2019, nominating Pakistani wrestler The Great Gama (1878–1960).


Shukla has been a columnist for The Observer' s magazine supplement and The Pool. He was shortlisted for a Liberty Human Rights Award, one of The Bookseller' s 100 most influential people in publishing, and one of Foreign Policy's 100 Global Thinkers in 2016. Time magazine named him as one of the twelve leaders shaping the next generation of artists.


He co-wrote the short film Two Dosas with Sarmad Masud. The film won both the London Calling Plus "Jury Award" (2014) and the Aspen Shortsfest's "Best Comedy" Short Film. It starred Himesh Patel. Danny Boyle awarded the film Best Short at the Shuffle Festival 2017, casting Himesh in the title role of Jack in Yesterday (2019).


Shukla is the author of three novels: Coconut Unlimited (2010), which was shortlisted for the Costa First Novel Awards and longlisted for the Desmond Elliott Prize, Meatspace (2014) and The One Who Wrote Destiny, He is the author of two books for Young Adults: Run, Riot (2018), which was shortlisted for the National Book Awards and won best YA at the CrimeFest Awards, and The Boxer.


Nikesh Shukla (born 8 July 1980) is a British author, screenwriter and fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. His writing focuses on race and immigration. He is the editor of the collection of essays The Good Immigrant (2016), which features contributions from Riz Ahmed, Musa Okwonga, Bim Adewunmi, and Reni Eddo-Lodge, among others. He is the co-editor of a follow-up collection, with Chimene Suleyman, called The Good Immigrant: 26 Writers Reflect On America (2019).
